From Behind the Chair to Back in the Chair: The Power of a Hair Colour Transformation by Jessica Wall-Innella, Aloxxi Executive Director

From Behind the Chair to Back in the Chair: The Power of a Hair Colour Transformation by Jessica Wall-Innella, Aloxxi Executive Director

It had been seven months since I had my hair professionally done. Seven. As someone who built a career in the beauty industry, with over 30 years as a hairstylist and a salon owner, I convinced myself that this was normal for me.

Prior to 2022, I had a standing 4-week appointment to be sure my hair was always my best asset. Like clockwork, every 10 days I would use Luminexx 5NABr to cover the “hairs of life experience.” But over time, that commitment to myself faded. It was not because it wasn’t important, but because everything else felt more urgent.

In January I had a wake-up call. I was at the Cosmoprof Miami show, surrounded by my incredible Aloxxi family, Rocco, Freddy, Ariel, and Eduardo, sharing what we love most,  Aloxxi ....we were all on a show "high" laughing and discussing our successes. Then they gave me something even more powerful: the truth.

"Jessica, what are you doing with this hair"

“You can’t keep doing your own hair in your bathroom.”

“Your clients trust you with their image - - what about yours?”

“If you’re leading this brand, you need to look like it.”

A million suggestions were being made, and the words came at me fast. It wasn’t about vanity. It was about alignment. And they were right. As hairstylists, we understand that hair is never just about hair. It’s how someone sees themselves, and how they show up in the world. With every colour transformation we are able to weave confidence, identity and energy into every strand. Somewhere along the way I stopped letting myself have that experience.

In the weeks leading up to Miami, I didn’t feel like myself. I avoided photos and videos. People asked me why I stopped posting on social media. My hair had become dark, thin, and lifeless; and with it, my energy followed. I was experiencing what so many of our clients experience, that when your hair doesn’t reflect who you are, it impacts how you show up in life.

When I returned home, I made the decision to let the team get their hands on my head - but with the caveat that we needed this to be shared. This isn’t just my story. It’s the story of so many salon professionals, business owners, and women who spend their lives taking care of everything and everyone else.

Sitting in a chair is never easy for me. Being served coffee and a sandwich at the same time - whoa. And the grey coverage was anything but just that. It was a complete hair transformation. Here’s what the team did:

  • Grey Blending Instead of Grey Coverage
We moved away from traditional root coverage to a softer, more modern grey blending technique for seamless growth.
  • Foilayage for Dimension and Brightness
A heavy foilayage lightened my overall colour, adding light, dimension and a more youthful finish.
  • Hair Extensions for Volume and Confidence
Two rows of extensions added natural fullness—perfect for addressing thinning while keeping the look low-maintenance.

The result was not just lighter, brighter hair. It was a renewed sense of self.

For those looking to recreate this transformation, here is the exact Aloxxi formula used behind the chair:

Since the transformation my confidence in front of the camera has returned. My husband couldn’t believe I was the same person that had left the house that morning. My kids saw not just my hair light up, but my face. This experience brought me back to the core truth of what we do: change people’s looks and outlooks. Hair colour is not just technical—it’s emotional. And the best stylists understand both.

If you’ve been putting yourself last—consider this your moment. Book the appointment. Refresh your hair. Experience the power of a professional service. Because what we do is powerful and sometimes, we need to feel that power for ourselves.

Watch the full transformation—and yes, a little behind-the-scenes proof that I’m far more comfortable behind the chair than modeling in front of the camera.
